Description

Lithophone is literally a "stone musical instrument" that operates, paradoxically, without the intervention of the human body.  Two granite boulders are made to rub against one another by the action of rubber straps and mechanical rotating devices, producing a fine dust that accumulates on the supporting steel plates. The reference to a past geological era and the assemblage of rudimentary technical components expands the concept of music, as an embodied language, to unrestricted temporal and agential scales, while offering an intriguing new formulation of the metaphor of intersubjective work.
