Since the late 1980s, new artistic practices have multiplied at the same time as digital technologies. These artists, who are now beginning to be recognized on the international contemporary art scene, have invested entirely new territories using digital technologies: sensory sensors, databases, robots, virtual worlds, immersive devices, games, social networks, surveillance networks, computer viruses... Furthermore, due to the very nature of these media, they have put the viewer back at the center of artistic concerns, focusing in particular on the concept of relationship, as well as social and environmental issues.
